On my ubuntu Dapper box, I am trying to compile something that
requires automake 1.9. It looks for option '-f'. On my system, if I
run /usr/bin/automake --version, I get automake (GNU automake) 1.4-p6

However, when I run aptitude, I see automake 1.7, 1.8, and 1.9. There
is an 'i' next to automake1.9, indicating it is installed.

Can someone explain this discrepancy? I am not sure how to reconcile
this and get the machine running 1.9 and understand the -f option.

   thanks,
   K
