   The amout of resources that Gnome DTE takes versus Xfce is significant.    
   I have a PII-450 box with 384 megs of ram that runs much more    
   responsively with xfce. You can also install Ubuntu and then install    
   the Enlightenment windows manager to use instead of Gnome or xfce.   
      
   Having said that, eLive is quite good by itself.
