On Wednesday 07 February 2007 07:00 am, Toby Newman ranted on thusly:

   >> Smart Playlist support. I have a dozen or so smart playlists I use with
   >> my Nano, depending on what kind of mood I am in.
   >
   > Yes, they're brilliant.
   >
   > Try one which selects 50 random tracks whose track number is 1.
   > I also have one which filters out all my partner's music. "Genre is not
   > X, artist is not X..."

Hehehe... that's a good way to do it. I do something similar, but it is
easier since my wife has her own (Windows) computer and runs iTunes on it.
I have all of her music that I don't like rated at 1.5-2.5 stars, and I set
all of my smart playlists to only play songs with three or more stars.

One of my favorite smart playlists is my Live Tracks playlist. I have any
song recorded live tagged with "(Live)" in the title field. And I have a
smart playlist which grabs a random mix of songs that match. It creates a
very awesome all-star concert for my enjoyment/amusement. Nothing like
having Barenaked Ladies, Wendy Woo, Tequila Mockingbird, Garth Brooks,
Billy Joel, Jack Johnson, AC/DC and Neko Case play an aweseome 50 song
   set. :)
