   Whilst perusing Usenet on Tue, 20 Feb 2007 08:40:40 -0700, I read
   these words from ray :

   >IMHO ndiswrapper is not a very good solution.

Perhaps it's not the ideal solution but if it works . . .

Wine probably isn't the ideal solution for running Windows
programs, but thousands (?) of people use it !
   >
   >A much better one is to use a wireless card with an Atheros
   >or other good supported chipset - like the Dlink WNA2330

Fine, if you're starting from scratch and buying new kit.

However, I already had a USR router, USR PCI card in
the old desktop and three (3) USR PCMCIA cards.
   >
   >- it worked 'out of the box' for me on 6.06 Ubuntu.

As did all of the above US Robotics stuff for me,
under both W2K and Win XP Pro.

It just seemed sensible to try to use the existing kit that I owned
before buying a new card from a different manufacturer which
might, or might not, have problems with 'talking' to the existing
   USR set-up.

I learned about the inherent problems in failing to 'match'
components from different manufacturers a long time ago
(the hard way) when I used to build my own computers.

FWIW, I do now have the card running under Ubuntu !

Next problem to solve is a networked Dell laser printer.
