   Whilst perusing Usenet on Mon, 19 Feb 2007 23:51:40 +0000, I read
   these words from Moog :

   >
   >There shouldn't be a firewall running.
   >
   >First thing to check is encryption.
   >Does the router have WEP or WPA?

   WEP
   >
   >If this isn't the problem...

I'll look into that script but I've resolved the problem !

For whatever reason the router address had dropped
   off of the hosts list.

I know that it *was* there because after the heartbreak
I've suffered while setting up Windows networks, I now
tend to use fixed IP Addresses and I put the IPA for the
   router in as 192.168.*.* !

Re-booted just to make sure it didn't lose it again
   and it looks OK.

After dabbling on-and-off since about 1968 with
various distros of Linux, that's the first time that
I've ever had a usable installation.

If you were here I'd pour you a drink but I suspect
you're both on the other side of the pond from me.

Thanks again for all the help guys !
