Once you go SLRN, you will wonder why anyone still uses any other
news client. Knode crashes, pan is a pain in the ass to use and
the simplest plonking is absolutely ludicrous in it's implementation,
and there are so many things wrong with many others that it's hard
to even remember all of them.

The *really* awsome thing about SLRN is that *you* can _fully_ customize
it's behaviour and even it's features. The startup file, .slrnrc, is
incredible in it's options for customizing the behavior and operation of
SLRN. And the use of scrips in the form of S-LANG macro's makes it easy
to design *any* feature into SLRN as a permanent addition; it's just
a matter of adding the macro name to the startup file. SLRN script macro's
are available all over the web, ready to eat, delicious and nutritious.
The GPG signature that is generated for each of my messages and added as
part of all my posts automatically by SLRN, is an add-on script downloaded
from the net. I din't even write it. It provides a unique signature for all
my posts based on my private key and the content of the message. It makes
it possible to authenticate any of my messages as coming from the same source.

Another script I downloaded, called turbo plonk, can batch plonk messages
by author, socks, full threads, and/or every poster to a thread. So if a
porno thread is crossposted as an example, into alt.christianity, the full
thread, all it's crossposting, and all participants in the thread can be
plonked with ease. Many other scrips are available for nothing more than
the time it takes to download them.

Check out SLRN all those who want a really awsome news client. There is
a bit of a learning curve as you set it up and learn the commands, and
it's not a gui based program, but it is well worth the difference!

   Best regards,

   Mateus
