   I just selected "Do Nothing" as the default for all media types and that    
   seems to get rid of the pop-up dialog nicely, while still preserving the    
   automount behavior. Odd, I could swear I tried that before and it didn't    
   work. :-/

   One additional annoyance that persists is that an undeletable icon for    
   the drive appears on my desktop whenever I insert the disc. Can anyone    
   tell me how to turn that off? I like my desktop squeaky-clean with zero    
   icons.
