   I did the same thing.  After several e-mails back and forth with tech   
   support, my laptop is now being sent to the factory for low-level   
   formatting and restoration of the same type of partitions you   
   describe.  I should have it back in a week or so.   
      
   From what I can tell, using Gparted to resize your partitions will   
   totally screw up your Vista bootloader and partition.  And you can't   
   use the recovery disk to restore the partitions or bootloader.  And   
   since the laptop has SATA drives and no floppy drive, installing XP is   
   not an option...and I would have settled on that.   
      
   Which leaves this question: what partition manager can I use within   
   Vista to resize the Vista partition and create an Ext3 partition?
