I backed up my /home directory to an external usb drive and then
reinstalled Ubuntu 6.10 on my main system. But now afterwards I'm no
longer the owner of those backed up files and so can't manipulate them as
   I'd like.

Can someone help me figure out please what the procedure is whereby I
might become owner of those files and folders?

   Thanks so much.
