   If that's the case, then the Original Poster could try using..........   
      
   $ sudo alien -k "name_and_path_of_avg_package".rpm    
      
   and then installing the resulting Debian package with GDebi package   
   installer.   
      
   Alien must first be installed   
   $ sudo apt-get install alien
