           Thanks!  I'm sure this will be a big help.  I've never compiled   
   anything   
   from source on Ubuntu, but I'll browse around the documentation.  If I have   
   problems, I may be posting again.   
           Oh, If I put the repo in synaptic things should go autoamatically,   
   right?    
   I may try that first.  I'm an independent filmmaker and cinelerra sounds   
   like it will be a major tool for me.  Once it's installed, I'll have plenty   
   of work to do...wel, I have that now...
