           Apparently I have to restart this thing several times before all the   
   stuff   
   is activated.  I did select preferences and had no way of changing the   
   number workspaces.  It just wasn't there...nor did I find it in the   
   documentation.   
           This morning I start up the system and low & behold there were 4   
   workspaces.  I hadn't done anything to change them.(?)  Also there is now a   
   specification in the preferences dialog box, where I can set it.  This is   
   much better.  I'm starting to feel at home again.
