I am using 6.06 because I have tried running both 6.06
and 6.10 with live cd and had trouble getting 6.10 to
   boot up properly.

I made the original post because my laptop came preloaded
with Vista but I did not get an actual OS disk, just a
recovery disk that I cannot use to create partitions.
(I was told by customer service that I would get an
actual OS disk, and I went off on them today because
they gave me something different, but that's a different
   fight that's still ongoing).

Since I cannot create an extra partition beforehand I
want to see if the Ubuntu installation will take care
of that and not mess up both OS installations.
