   That's exactly what I did. But: I installed another Linux after ubuntu and   
   it overwrote the MBR (it did not offer me the option). I went back to the   
   ubuntu partition and tried to reinstall grub. At that point - no boot -   
   just a message from the intel boot manager to check the cable. So I went   
   to the Elive install and did it from there - no problem. Back to ubuntu   
   grub and same lockup again. I finally copied all the stage files from the   
   Elive partition to the ubuntu partition and tried again - it worked.   
   Tentative conclusion: there is probably something wrong with the upgraded   
   stage 1 or stage 1.5 file.
