OK, I have ugraded to Feisty, and it all went well and it hasn't
   crashed
yet. I am a little upset with having only 2 workspaces and not finding any
way to change that. Why wouldn't the upgrade preserve my settings? It's
most inconsiderate. I routinely use three workspaces...I multitask like
heck! Occasionally I use all 4. I just can't get along with 2.
First I found the place where you can drag icons to the panel and I
thought, "Great, I'll just drag this workspace icon to the panel a couple
of times and that'll fix it. The first time I did it, I got a second
access to the same 2 workspaces. My! That's useful. (:-|) I deleted
   those.
Then I got into "Yelp" and found a command that wraps onto 4 lines
   that's
supposed to change the default setting. I cut and pasted it into a
terminal window. I got an error message that was longer than the command.
It was so long I didn't even read beyond the first line, which said
something about not being able to write to the gconf.xml.defaults file. I
stuck a sudo in front of it and got the same error. It never even asked me
for my password. So I did an su and it did ask me for the password, which
I gave it, and it rejected my password.
Is there something simple that I missed. This upgrade feels like a
downgrade. I suppose I'll get used to it once I get my setting back the
way they used to be. My solitaire game is messed up too. All the
alternative decks of cards are gone. This is one of my main activities
when I'm waiting for a download or whatever.
I'm just hoping that they screwed up on the little stuff because they
   were
putting all their effort into the big stuff. So Cinelerra should install
and run like a breeze, right?!
