   Several options:   
      
   1) supergrub disk.   
      
   2) boot a Live CD and run grub to reinstall the MBR.   
      
   3) boot from the Ubuntu CD and select rescue mode.   
      
   Be aware that there may be real problems here. I think the FIRST thing I   
   would do would be to boot a Live CD and run 'badblocks' on your main   
   partitions to see if there is a hard drive problem. If 'badblocks' reports   
   errors on the disk - DO NOT MOUNT ANY PARTITIONS - if possible, unplug the   
   drive and come back - I can probably help you through a data retrieval   
   process. If 'badblocks' reports no errors, then proceed with one of the   
   options above.
