   Hello community!

I am trying to install "Ubuntu 6.10 Desktop AMD64" on a USB harddisk
attached to my laptop but it is not working out.
I am instructing Ubuntu to take the whole USB drive (2,5", 60GB 7200U/min
IBM) and to partition it as it desires, but after completing 15% of the ext3
filesystem of the "/" partition, Ubuntu aborts saying that it can't create
   the filesystem correctly.
I tried the installation 2 times, but each time the same error occured at
   exactly the same point.

I have checked the harddisk under windows with chckdsk, but no bad sectors
where found. When I wanted to install ubuntu, i had prior erased all
partitions on the disk, it was absolutely virgin.

What could be the cause for the aborting installation? Any hints for me?

In general: Do I actually use the right version of Ubuntu? I have an
   Siemens-Fujitsu Amilo Xa1526 with a "AMD X2 Turion TL56 Dual Core"
processor. Is it correct to use the AMD64-version of Ubuntu?

   Thanx for any hint!
   Ciao
   Tom
