I screwed up my Windows XP when trying to install Ubuntu. Almost
certainly my own fault although I think a little more 'hand holding' on
the cd during installation would be useful.
Restore didn't work and I had to rescue my files using a windows 98
start up floppy. Why windoz is incapable of restoring it when all the
file structure is intact beats me.
I am very nervous about trying again because I need XP to make my living
and it took a week to get everything back as was. Rather than change
anything at all in the windows partition would it be possible to put
ubuntu on a spare partition and boot to it from a floppy? If so that
would seem as good a way of dual booting as any i.e. leave the boot disk
sticking out or push it in?
