SINNER was all like, you know, and then said something like a ...

   [...]
   >>> If you are using leafnode, let slrn connect to leafnode instead of to
   >>> the spool directly.
   >>
   >> Didn't see an option for that, only nntp and spool.
   >
   > Right and leafnode is your NNTP so slrn should connect to 127.0.0.1 if
   > leafnode is running.

   Tried:
% This can either be set to "nntp" (read online) or "spool" (use local spool)
   set server_object "127.0.0.1"

    and also

   set server_object "localhost"

     and received

"Server object '127.0.0.1' is not supported."

"Server object 'localhost' is not supported."

See below for more on that (above).

   > What editor do you use?

I use gvim for slrn but prefer nano. Haven't the time to set up nano and
may not since gvim is nice.

   >
   > see if this helps:
   >
   > http://groups.google.com/group/news.software.readers/msg[snipped]

Printed that out for later ... enough to do just now . Yet, thank you.

   > add to ~/.bashrc
   >
   > export NNTPSERVER=SERVER.NAME.HERE

Set to "localhost" and no errors reported - thank you!

   > and add the server name to your hosts file with 127.0.0.1 as the IP

Already in place - did that for leafnode.

   > Should be a DOC called First Steps in the slrn doc directory.

Didn't locate it, but got and printed it from
http://slrn.sourceforge.net/docs/FIRST_STEPS; which is pretty much all
I've done except to set up vim with max chars of 72 (tw=72') and
spelling. Seems from the First Steps document I have the server correctly
arranged, "(or even localhost, if you are running a local server like
   Leafnode)".

Another thing I need to learn better is scoring (heh, heh ... he said
"scoring") and having seen/unseen but being followed articles remain
visible. Lastly, I hope , making doing a new score easier to do - that
is in fewer steps ... macro?
