I too have a compaq presario VX3015N with the dual core AMD Turion 64 and
1GB RAM. I really like this machine.

At first I installed Kubuntu 64 bit on it and had a LOT of difficulty
getting things to run. I eventually with back and reinstalled using 32 bit
Kubuntu and its been running really well. I did have real issues wit the
wireless (mine has the Broadcomm 4311 chipset) but after trying numerous
options I eventually spent $19 on a utility that autoinstalled ndiswrappers
with a windows driver and the wireless worked like a champ.

   Good luck.
