   I don't know what's "really old", but I guess a PIII600 and an Intel 440BX
chipset is rather old, and a Sound Blaster 16 (ISA) is very old. Can I go
back and forth between the two desktops? I already had a look at Ubuntu
and Xubuntu, but neither recognized my monitor and I was stuck with
   800x600-60Hz.

Well, there is in KDE Control. I installed the driver from the lis given,
but the printer does not respond to print commands from applications. Also
I noticed that the driver is rather linited, e.g. it does not offer the
option to print more than 1 page on a sheet.

That's far too complex for me.

I want to use applications not become a Linux OS expert.

Last year I had a look at PCLinuxOS, also with hardware problems. It's
beginning to look like Linux is not for me right now. I regret that as I
am fed up with M$ after Vista, or more correctly since they dropped
   Windows 2000.

   Thanks for the reply.
