   I feel Microsoft is not the originator of (some of) the increase in    
   power-hunger.   
   It seems it's at least partially due to the greed from the Hollywood    
   Execs that has 'forced' the inclusion of a lot of unnecessary CPU cycles    
   just to check for the validity of the media you play.   
   All aside from the (40-50 watts?) power used by the GPU's that are    
   needed for the "can't do without" 3D menus.
