Xunil Resu was all like, you know, and then said something like a ...

   > My Kubuntu pc has 384 mb RAM.[...]
   > By comparison[...] 230 Mb RAM (of 1 Gb) and 130 Mb of the Pagefile.

RAM is much faster to access than a page file (requires hard drive I/O).
Your XP box is using 360 MB between the RAM and pagefile. Your Linux box
is using 384 MB of RAM alone - not a big numerical difference.

Also, you haven't listed what apps are running on the Linux box. More
precisely, how many *processes* are employed on the Linux box compared to
   the XP machine.

Plus, it appears you have two differing computers here given the RAM
figures. Therefore, it can be reasonably assumed this is NOT an apple to
apple comparison between OS and machines in use.

is that 99% of the laws shouldn't be in place.
