I believe that a person who is new to Win or Linux or Mac should be able
to get an old or a new or a borrowed computer and use a dialup or
otherwise and log onto the internet, access some web forums and
googlegroups and find out about newsservers and newsreaders and how to
not top post or bottom post from GG accessible groups such as
   news.newusers.questions, alt.free.newsservers, news.software.readers,
   and 24hoursupport.helpdesk.

In short order they should be able to research what kind of connectivity
access is best for them, dialup, DSL, or cable modem and which free or
nearly free newsserver they will be using with what newsagent to have a
happier news interface than GG. Any of those decisions can be modified
or upgraded later, and OE often plays a part in the stepping stone from
GG to newsreader to better newsreader to better OS and then to better
   distro.

Then they can evolve from one newsagent or newsserver to another and
from one browser or operating system to another and from one
connectivity or mail provider to another. In the meantime they can be
learning from websites, webforums, and newsgroups. And getting along
with each other in each; and handling their mail safely and securely
   without spam frustration.
