And so would I to be honest. This is why I think the Linspire deal is a
good idea. There is a lot of whining around the Windows community that
Linux has too many distro's, too many choices and is too complicated.
Without getting involved in philosophical discussions about OS vs Closed
source, I think a bit of consolidation and standardization is a good
thing, especially as it benefits the customer.

Thanks for the heads up on this. read the Wiki and immediately removed
automatix. Its a shame, but as I know there is going to be an official
solution in the next release, I can wait.

While I agree with the philosophy, the harsh reality is that people (and
I include myself in this group) need these files to make the system
work the way I want it to. I think it was in Mark Shuttleworth's blog
where he said hard choices and compromises are going to have to be made,
and he is right. I can see in the very near future people saying to
noobs "if you want that functionality, go to Linspire",and that would be
a shame, and it would be detrimental to the hard work that Ubuntu have
strived in making the OS noob friendly, even to the point of scaring off
   advanced users ;)

   Agreed

A win-win scenario. Good news indeed!
