Comcast upgraded my modem, and after some difficulty I was able to get my
Ubuntu Edgy desktop online via dhcp. The real problem comes when I
attempt to recycle my modem and connect my HP Pavilion ze4230 online. It
simply refuses to interface, although the network monitor indicates that
   packets are being received.

I never had a minute's difficulty with the old modem. I'd simply swap the
ethernet cable, recycle the modem, boot up the computer and away we'd go.

I've tried tweaking everything I can think of, including copying the
desktop's /etc/network/interfaces file to the laptops directory.

   Nothing works.

   Any insights would be appreciated.
