   Thanks!  You know these little nuggets of knowledge are invaluable,  If    
   I had known how to do it I would not have sodded around with Automatix2.    
     I am surprised that 'sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop' wasn't mentioned in    
   the Ubuntu docs.  It is after all Ubuntu's reputation to be easy to use    
   and by default all Ubuntu flavours, so this minor yet important omission    
   is surprising!
