   Explanation:   
   I have 2 internal harddisks in my laptop, HD0 and HD1. I run them with a    
   software stripeset (RAID0) under WindowsXP. To do this, Windows has to    
   change the harddisks to be "Dynamical volumes". This seems to make changes    
   in the boot record of the harddisks, which makes it impossible for other    
   operating systems to access these disks properly afterwords. So GRUB coudn't    
   position itself on these disks. My external USB drive is HD2, so changing    
   GRUB's position to there, made it possible for it to install itself.
