Perhaps I am feeding the trolls, but I really don't know what the problem
is here. I recently downloaded and installed the binary for eagle on my
Edgy desktop, and I've had absolutely NO problems with file permissions.
As a matter of fact, I was overwhelmed at just how effortless the process
was, as I am positively a naif compared to most of the veteran Ubuntu guys
   in this newsgroup.

My son is a senior physics major and I downloaded the eagle application
for his use. He raves about it.

Ubuntu is the best Linux distro I've ever used (and I've used quite a
few), and it is superior to Windoze in just about every way imaginable.

If an old fart like me can manage it, then it must be ready for prime time.

Mark Shuttleworth is a saint, IMO.
