Not just Ubuntu users. Any livecd can create a partition or, a folder!
It didn't just fall off the turnip truck, there, Bubba.

If a Gigabyte of RAM is there, you can let the Live CD image reside
there, for a fast liveCDrom distro. It is in the boot options of many
of the Knoppix derived LiveCD distros.

Some of us use a USB drive and reboot to GNU/Linux, from it. I have
three 80 Gb drives, in Airline 101 FW/USB cases. Cost about $30 a case.
But, for In-store spontaneous demonstrations, the LiveCDrom works best.
I don't want to mess with the demo computer, anyway.

Option in most Knoppix LiveCDroms is to run a folder on the drive, in
the installed OS, with the configuration file of about 40Kb, plus, your
bookmarks, and other preferences! Then nothing reverts to zero, and,
you can save mail, files, etc. to that folder!

all your settings of course revert to zero.

Sure there is, if you want to boot from the LiveCDrom or USB stick, at
work, on a shared system, or a small network for, say, admin or
forensic, purposes... Compaq and HP, others, make a special hidden
partition just for remote access to their computer products for remote
admin. Why not do that with your machines, when in different locales?

Like the presumption of stupidity is so condescending, you might as well
label all Microsoft users 'cavemen'. The remastering instructions are
so simple a caveman could do it!

I do have youngsters with caveman IQ do it, and some other tasks, with
no prompting. Mother Nature will out..." I prefer to let noobs have
http://pclinuxos.com and run with their own ball. My goal in making
older systems available to everyone, for free, is to set up lots of
Linux systems in the group homes of the Downs Syndrome organizations.

I am not surprised that the folks who have severe problems can remaster
GNU/Linux Live distros! Humans have great abilities to master their
   challenges.

I just wish you master yours, too. I am praying for you.
