I have been using Ubuntu for over a year, an up to date version of
   Dapper.
I really like the philosophy and the spirit in which it is being developed,
but the time has come when I need certain things to work, for instance, I
coukld ude a good video editor for regular DV and for High Definition. I
am breaking into the TV Production field and I need that desperately.
Today I tried to copy some high school yearbooks for an archive effort,
before they turn to dust and I found that Xsane freezes any time I try to
   scan.
My internet applications all work well. The games play well, allbeit
   they
are mostly tiny games like solitaire and so on, but when it comes to doing
anything serious, Ubuntu just doesn't seem to have things that are
reliable. I can get sound out to my good speakers, but since I bought my
new computer I have never been able to record anything. That, could be the
hardware, but how would I find out? It just never works.
I hate to say it but I may have to go back to Mandrake. I've just got
   to
   get stuff working.
