How the fsck is posting a link to a website that shows him how to get
windows apps running under Linux misleading? I posted a link, never once
said everything works perfectly. Stop reading so much into the post.

   > Many windows apps do not run properly

   And your point is?

The OP didn't mention any apps specifically so I could not be any more
specific other than a pointer to an awesome resource to possible attract
a new user while you OTOH make generalizations which equate to FUD.

   > and the overhead of running them in a virtual machine is not
   > an option for many people.

The overhead isn't that bad. I have windows 2003 server running in a VM
with weblogic and MSSQL and I have no resource issues. This machine is
   no powerhouse either.

   > WINE is so poorly configured and subject to
   > so many changes that google shipped picasa for Linux with a frozen
   > version.

You base your opinion of wine based on a google application?

Wine works just fine for MANY apps and there is always Cedega and
Crossover Office, which are commercial but work very well and not even
   covered on that site.

   > I would ask the OP if he is sure that the Windows apps are a must have.

I would ask him to try wine first so he can put his toe in the water to
test the temp while still feeling comfortable. Dual booting does not
work well in this regard, the same way its hard to stop a user from
using Outlook Express for other better free applications on the SAME OS.

He can move to equivalents once he feels more comfortable.

   > The only app of note I really miss is Frontpage which despite its
   > detractors, is a fairly stable and easy to use wysiwig html editor.

I have never seen a true WYSIWYG HTML editor, so why not just use a text
editor and view the page in a REAL browser?
