   I've tried toggling a few combinations in the power manglement section of   
   the BIOS to no avail. I'm going to give the live CD idea a go to see what   
   happens. I'll post back with the results later.

   GUI does not work for me, neither does "shutdown now" "shutdown -P now"   
      
   Thanks for your suggestions though, I'll keep plugging away and let you
