   a) don't believe the regulars here, if they tell you would have to do    
   everything from the commandline and tweak configuration files.   
   They have been doing that since years and did not recognise that the world    
   around have changed.   
   b) fire up the installer (Synaptic for Ubuntu, Adept for Kubuntu) and extend    
   the standard repository with "universe" and "multiverse":   
   for example in Kubuntu: Go to Adept --> manage repositories. The line    
   http://**.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu edgy universe   
   is greyed, right-click on it, choose enable. Fetch updates.   
   Synaptic is not that different, quite easy to find out.   
   c) you have now got a library of around 20.000 programs that install with    
   just a few clicks. (Request install, Commit: you're done!)   
   d) enjoy the new world of Ubuntu.
