   Do you really think this is a good advice for a newbie?   
      
   There are better ( and safer) ways to fix it in Ubuntu distros than to    
   fiddle in xorg.conf.   
      
   He should start with selecting a generic 1024x768 monitor from the system    
   menues.   
   Even Xubuntu should have one. I'll take a look this evening.
