   If you are using DHCP, then there is nothing that you should be changing.

   Define "looks fine". No don't -- just post the result of "route -n".   
      
   Can you ping the default gateway? Can you ping an external site like    
   yahoo.com? What happens when you try these? What happens when you ping    
   with a large packet:   
   $    ping -s 1500 yahoo.com   
      
   What happens when you use traceroute  to show the route to an exernal    
   website? Now try tcptraceroute to the same site, using port 80 as the    
   destination port. eg:   
   $  sudo tcptraceroute yahoo.com 80

   You describe yourself as a newbie. You will get more help if you give more    
   information, rather than making judgements that may be wrong!   
      
   My immediate thought is that there could be issues with proxies rather    
   than IP configuration.
