   Installing software is mostly a nightmare for users who got wrong   
   advice.   
   If it's not in availabe as one of the 20.000 available debian packages   
   you'd better not even try as an Ubuntu rookie freshly arriving  from   
   Redmont.   
      
   The most common problem is that even if a debian pack exist, a lot of   
   good intended nice guys will suggest you to tweak some .conf file,   
   when they don't suggest a completely inadequate .rpm pack or to   
   extract a .tar and do all the stuff manually.
