   Hello All   
      
   Thanks for your help with my previous post, network shares now all dine    
   and dandy.   
      
   I now have Ubuntu up and going and am dead pleased with it; I tend to    
   use KDE more than gnome (so I guess that's Kubuntu?) - I boot up one or    
   the other as the mood takes me.   
      
   Anyway - all this software!! There's loads of it and like a kid in a    
   sweet shop I don't know which way to turn :). For now, I have settled on    
   FireFox for web, Thunderbird for email and newgroups and GAIM for IM but    
   there's so much choice.   
      
   I am principally a surfer and multimedia user with occasional need for    
   word-processing and the like. I would also like to be able to    
   synchronise contacts, diary and multimedia between the laptop and my    
   Nokia N80 phone and generally "manage" the phone, either by USB or    
   Blueooth but so far no luck.   
      
   Now the contentious question - what are your favourite / recommended    
   applications; I would like to settle on a core of applications so that I    
     can clear up that k-menu and remove the temptation to meddle instead    
   of work!   
      
   My next project might be to rebuild the Windows Media Centre under the    
   telly; but I'll more than likely bother you with that another time :)
