I'm in the same position. I've been using Thunderbird in XP for a few
weeks, addresses and email store imported from OEx ok, I had to copy my
   news list individually.
Now my intention is to export the same files to USB stick and import
them to Ub'u. Likewise Firefox imported all my Favourites from IE and
similarly across to Linux. (You could read the same files direct from
XP if you wish.) Have fun.
