   I did, and yes Thunderbird does both those things. I run Thunderbird on    
   my Ubuntu workstation but I don't consider it good enough for everyday    
   use. For instance the threading display for newsgroups is very similar    
   to that in some earlier news clients, and I find it unusable. The    
   difficulty isn't just finding a program that does the same that Turnpike    
   does, it's finding a program (or programs) that can do them at least as    
   well.   
      
   Turnpike has its faults too. It's completely closed, there are no    
   published specifications for its file structure. There is no API to    
   allow it to be integrated into other systems. All of the data is stored    
   in a few monolithic data files.
