   Do you mean the full screen terminal you get when you hit   
   ctl-alt-f6 and so forth? Or do you mean the terminal opened in a window   
   on the GUI desktop (kde or gnome?)?   
      
   If the former then from a command line we make a copy and then edit the   
   grub file:   
      
   cp /boot/grub/menu.lst ~   
   sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst   
      
   and then add vga line to the kernel mode as mentioned in this thread.

   be careful!!!! if you corrupt your menu.lst your system may get screwed up.   
      
   If its Gnome Terminal just edit/profiles/default ....
