   if this works, SERVER_PIDVERSION is derived from SERVER_VERSION and is then   
   stripped of trailing zeros... the dot is also stripped if everything to the   
   right is all zeros... this way it fits the PID spec for the version number...   
   it may not be the best way to do this but i think it works... would be good to   
   have someone look it over, though... especially since i'm not a C coder :lol:
