Hi! Björn,              On 08/26/2015 06:39 AM, you wrote:               BF> But you still insist on running VMware and Win 95/98 or something?               BF> I abandoned VMWare years ago and am now using Oracle Virtual Box. I        BF> really can recommend it.               BF> --- Paul's Win98SE VirtualBox              I discarded VMware back in 2008; it was just a toy. I started running Sun       VirtualBox (vBox) in April 2009, ironically installing one of the WinXP       install sets I had at that time. There are currently five vBox PCs running       24/7/365, providing discrete LAN functions (not counting XP, BTW, which is       used very sparingly). So, I know something about vBox.              I converted my Win98SE hardware PC (with the Fidonet config) to a vBox in       February 2011, and it has been running far better, more stably, and *faster*       than in hardware. Fido really dates back to 1994, so I have a considerable       investment in DOS stuff that will not run in later Windows incarnations,       sporting so-called advanced revisions of their DOS... if they have such a       capability IAC.              Now, should I discard Win98SE and switch to a Linux node... now? No, I think       it's too soon. I have to catch up with some software that needs to replace       other behind-the-scenes operations. Besides, I am hesitant to commit my NNTP       users to a switch of server account changes that I know was a major PITA for       many users recently, when I threw away the Dyndns.org domain.              I apologise profusely for any interruptions in service but I do my best to       catch problems as soon as I'm able to, and will continue to do so. Unless       there might be other problems, or that I might not be feeling well, Fido,       JamNNTPd specifically, is the very first thing I check each morning. Please,       bear with this cranky old bastard for a bit longer...              Cheers,       Paul.              --- Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:31.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/31.4.0        * Origin: Paul's other Linux vBox - Maryborough, Qld, OZ (3:640/1384)    |
