   Actually, up is defined as "away from the centre of the Earth (this one)".   
   North is not "up".   
      
   In a geography exam at school I drew Australia with Tasmania at the top of the   
   page and the Northern Territory at the bottom. There was a bold arrow to the   
   side with S written at the head.   
      
   I got full marks for that (an open minded teacher).
