     Having only run SBBS for 2 years (compared to 13 years under GT Power   
   on dial-up, then running VADV32 ever since), it has been a long time

     It's the VFIDO Mailer with Virtual Advanced...although Internet Rex   
   does have a directory for nodelist files.

   NB>.?lo, .try, .bsy/.csy etc files - which is of course the wrong way to setup

     I guess that's what he did...but I went back to QWK Networking. I do   
   a manual telnet logon to his system once a day, to send the outgoing REP   
   packet, and scan for a new QWK packet.
