Is this a       > charity?       >       > I'm grateful to them for this opportunity and for the /48, but don't       > quite understand their motives.              I think SIXXS and HE both did it to promote IPv6, which helps people in       general, and probably HE in the long run.              At some point (which should have been 10-20 years ago) we should have       moved over to IPv6 by default, but the general in-availability of       customers and demand made ISPs drag their feet, and this in turn delayed       it even further.              In order to break such a vicious circle, someone has to act outside of       shortsighted gain, and HE did, which is nice.              As a side effect, they probably get to test IPv6 deployment code and       strategies, they get a real-world place to test v6 compliance of       hardware to be deployed elsewhere in their net and their operators get       to practice on large-scale deployments where the customers aren't paying       so they can make invasive changes if need be.              It will be hard to estimate the amount of network savvy people today       that associate HE with IPv6.
