I think that too many people try to        "keep up', really, just use an app like tweet deck, or distroy twitter, and it        becomes a better experience, also the point isn't to get too involved. Also,        following #city or #topic is usually a nice thing over @friend... sometimes        following #yourcity, you find out about cool stuff coming up, or something        local happening now. i actually find discussions following #phx a lot more        like what local bbsing used to be than about anything else I've seen.              > do we really need to know that 'joe' is leaving to go to the museum at        > 12:00?              not so much.. but if @joe says, I'm having lunch in area X of #city, any        recommendations, that works well... or I'm going from hotel to #airport        following #event, anyone to share a cab? both of those happen a lot on        twitter... again, following @joe imho isn't as usefull as        #topic/event/location, which might be a more immediate interest/need.              > another thing i noticed is i'm following all these people. i didnt even        > use twitter on that account that much OR look at people's pages and i        > have a shitload of people i'm 'following'.       >        > even had jay hodges on there, i noticed this while he was complaining        > about it. had no clue who i was following him, had no clue he was on        > twitter.       >        > maybe they're fabricating activity to keep it from dying.              not likely, I know a lot of people who follow topics of immediate interest        over people, and the key isn't to attempt to keep up from yesterday, but to        glance at the now.              --        Michael J.
