|    net neutrality, again    |

Hello all!                     Reading other publications tells me that Verizon may file       suit against the fcc regarding their stance on net       neutrality, landing it in the same court which struck down       the fcc's rules and regs on the issue the first time.              THis could impact a lot of folks, ham radio folks shipping       control data and audio via internet links, p2p systems such       as Fidonet, etc.              The one thing that gets me is that if the internet       neutrality regs the fcc is endeavoring to promulgate are       struck down again and again is that nobody's asking for one       thing which would clarify the issue for the subscribers and       the folks who wish to use the internet as the primary       carrier of critical data, such as remote control information for complex       systems, etc. That would be that big backbone       type carriers and isps provide the customer or potential       customer the actual rules they use for controlling traffic.              Were they to provide the customer these rules then the       customer could choose before he signs up whether or not that provider will       truly meet his needs. All other things being       equal, say for example you are in an area served by       broadband cable and dsl, one could choose between other       factors than the size of the pipe, if they're comprabale.              Just some thoughts from an old guy out here in the sticks       over first cup of coffee.                                   Regards,        Richard       --- timEd 1.10.y2k+        * Origin: (1:116/901)    |
