   Although I've already heard about the history of the internet in one form or   
   another, it always seems interesting to read about it again and see what   
   someone else says about it - Perhaps there are more bits of information to be   
   found.  Today I found this article explaining the history of the internet with   
   maps showing the locations of various early internet nodes:

   It's interesting that the internet's roots started even before the BBS   
   (counting Ward Christensen's CBBS in 1978, which I've heard was one of the   
   first official BBS software packages - if not the first actual BBS package).
