Hello mark!              24 Jun 15, mark lewis wrote to Kai Richter:               KR>> I never heard of QWK networks,               ml> that's ok...               KR>> QWK is a point to point protocol between a BBS and an offline        KR>> user.               ml> no... the PCRELAY/RIME network (mainly PCBoard systems) was completely        ml> QWK...              Why don't you call it RIME when you are talking about RIME networking? ;)       I wouldn't call ftn networks squish or jam networking and QWK networking is       same confusing.               ml> the main difference between an end user and another system was        ml> that a system was allowed to post messages with different user        ml> names...              Then the same limitations apply and it still was a point to point protokoll       where one BBS became "user" and fetched mail from another BBS via QWK?               ml> it appears to me that golded can be used like bluewave or multimail        ml> where it can accept QWK mail and (unlike the others) unpacks it into        ml> JAM or SQUish or whatever message bases...              I don't think so. Golded is no tosser, it can access the message base which is       for QWK the QWK file set and generate a QWK standard answer packet.              Maybe move/copy mails from the QWK files into sqd or jam echoarea is possible.               ml>>> so when starting a message reply or original, there's no way to        ml>>> edit the From name and From address?               KR>> No. There is a way. The random system is just the default        KR>> auto-fill but can               ml> random name choosing is not a good thing when it comes to posting        ml> messages...              Nobody wrote about random names. The thing is called random system and i hope       you don't think the creator was that stupid to create random names.              "No" means no to your "no way". To be clear i said there is a way.       Looks like my english is more worse than i thought. ;)               KR>> be edited by cursor up too. Some keywords can be used many times,        KR>> like origin and aka, there is a change function and you can        KR>> select from a list to use one. I never tried, but i think        KR>> USERNAME can be defined many times too.               ml> too bad that one cannot configure an area to use a specific username        ml> by default...              That is exactly what you can.              The random system chooses between two given origin definitions randomly. What       would happen if the is one origin definition only? What would happen if there       is one username definition only?               ml> that would allow for what is being asked for... in areas xyz, i want        ml> to use this name by default              group xyz       username "this name"       endgroup               ml> but in areas pdq i want to use another name...              group pdq       username "another name"       endgroup              would do your wish. xyz and pdq must be exact echotags and be before other       wildcarded echotags. In the random system the first hit counts.               KR>> Yupp, that's common procedure. The random system of golded just        KR>> adds some kind of lazyness. ;) Together with templates you could        KR>> have random mail introduction lines or footers too.               ml> i understand the random thing but i don't see it as being valid for        ml> specific uses like the one being asked about ;)              I never thought someone could believe that random names could be a reasonable       feature. :)              Even the AKA keyword in the random system isn't choosen randomly. Multiple       AKAs gives the option for a menu to select one AKA from. I never tried with       usernames but i think it's the same.              good bye              Kai              --- GoldED+/LNX 1.1.4.7        * Origin: Kuckuck! (2:240/1351.7)    |
